Worth Your Attention

  • R.I.P. Ray Gauthier
Joe Labriola has long complained about the poor quality of medical care and conditions in medical clinics within Massachusetts prisons. Ray Gauthier's story serves as a sad example. See also the related letter to the University of Masschusetts Correctional Health Program and the tribute to Ray from the Red Tail Alliance.

  • Nesto Monell's story
This Iraq War veteran's situation is eerily reminiscent of what happened to Joe Labriola, and it makes us wonder how many vets are having their service used against them.

Note: It is rare that we get to celebrate in the pages of this website, but here is a thrilling update to the Nesto Monell story. In the words of Karen Spence, who worked tirelessly in his behalf:
"Five years later, here we are with the best news one could ever wish for. What a week, though, but today was the best day ever. Nesto was found NOT GUILTY of all charges . . ."

  • The Wrongful Death & Injury Institute Inc.
This research and advocacy organization provides a great collection of resources concerning medical treatment in the prison system.

  • "Not all the convicted prisoners who claim it are innocent — but some are"
Thanks to organizations like the Innocence Project, there have been more than 250 post-conviction DNA exonerations in the United States.

  • "Prisons commit more crimes than inmates"
This Yale Daily News article summarizes many of the faults in our prison system.
